New spin to "think of me…" & "what r u doing right now?"

My hubby sent me a sweet romantic sms in the middle of the day yesterday. After he got home, he was talking about his day when he suddenly referred to the sms. ZB: *smiling impishly* You like, right? Me: Yes, yes, score high points! How come so sweet one, still think of me when so busy at work? ZB: I was taking a break mah. Me: Oh? ZB: *half sheepishly* I was in the toilet lah. Me: … … I don’t know []

My 'other halves' and (poor) me

Zibin (my spouse ‘other-1/2’), Ivy (my original prefect ‘other-1/2’) and I were having a conversation and the topic drifted somehow to Korean dramas. (Ivy has never watched any Korean drama, ever.) I mentioned a trivia I had just come across recently, that Autumn in My Heart was the first K-drama that sparked the Korean wave in Asia, followed by the other hugely popular Winter Sonata. I also mentioned that many summers ago, Serena (my sis-in-law) had lent me her VCD set of []

Beware if you snore

Last night hubby and I went to bed pretty late and we were very tired. As usual, Zibin fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow. I, on the other hand, had to drift off to sleep. Fortunately, Zibin wasn’t snoring (as sometimes he is wont to do when he is too tired) and so I didn’t take too long to fall asleep. But. Just as I was crossing the threshold into unconscious dreamland, Zibin let out a sudden, []

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

Yinwei shared this speech that Steve Jobs gave at a Stanford commencement in 2005 on her blog. I thought it’s worth ‘forwarding’ it here as well. Whether or not you agree with the spirit of what Jobs says, regardless of whether you find the speech inspiring or not, I think you won’t find it a waste of time to listen to him or read the speech. It was a very good commencement speech, and Jobs is renowned as an excellent public speaker, []

Pleasure and Joy

Do not look for rest in any pleasure, because you were not created for pleasure: you were created for spiritual JOY. And if you do not know the difference between pleasure and spiritual joy you have not yet begun to live. Life in this world is full of pain. But pain, which is the contrary of pleasure, is not necessarily the contrary of happiness or of joy. Because spiritual joy flowers in the full expansion of freedom that reaches out without obstacle []

Inner health and beauty

A year and a half ago, I had a very bad outbreak of acne that came after months of terrible sleeping and eating habits and emotional turmoil. Normally I’m quite blasé about the occasional pimple outbreak because I’m so used to it. But this case was very bad and the timing couldn’t be worse because my wedding was coming up. I tried various remedies for several months with minimal improvement. In the end, at my mother’s behest, I decided to go for []

Destination… where?

Matthew 20:26-28 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom []

Bagged by luxury and materialism

Yesterday evening I had a great dinner at Clementi MacDonalds with an old friend; another belated birthday dinner for me. We had a light-hearted and laugh-filled conversation until she decided to show me the new LV bag on her lap which veered our talk to a completely new direction. She had a $980 bag on her lap. My eyes popped. Oh, and her husband had gotten her another bag at the same time… guess how much it was? I guessed $1,300. No. []

The Original F4 [Fab 4]

The Terrible Two V for Very Good Mama Victim of Ivy’s fork It was a belated birthday celebration dinner for me. :) Ivy and YW used their wiles to try and trick me into choosing a pretty/girly dress that the 3 of them would then present as a surprise birthday present to me. They were so cute, really. Almost from the get-go I guessed they wanted me to buy me a dress for my present, but they were so adorable putting on []

Missing snowy Toronto

Photo from [daily dose of imagery] I don’t miss the slush, nor the sub-zero temperatures. But I do miss the sight and feel of freshly fallen snow. For the past few days I find myself returning again and again to this particular photo in DDOI. There’s something silent and beautiful about this snow scene… something that makes me think of the times I’ve walked home alone on a quiet snowy evening. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. *********** See the larger version of the photo []
