Sunday, "Fun"day

Other than one incident which pretty much marred my day, today was by any other standards a good day. 3 things stood out which made it a fun Sunday:

1) Ping-Pong: Finally had a rematch with Zibin after 4 years. The last time we played was at my aunt’s place and it wasn’t all that shiok since we played barefoot, w/o our bats and in a low-ceiling room. Today we played in a squashcourt, newly reconfigured bats and with proper footwear (big difference!). It was interesting. Neither of us remembered how good the other was. You should have seen how ‘ya-ya’ Zibin started off when we were warming up. I take pride in forcing him to fight for all the sets he won later on! The first game was close, Zibin took it 3-2 with 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 15-13. Then we decided to play a second game with just best of three sets and I took it 2-1 with 16-14, 11-13, 11-9. We even went for a short swim afterwards to cool off… after that intense ping-pong game it was such a relief.

2) Boon Tong Kee Chicken Rice: Oooh, what can I say here. It’s goooood. The chicken is so tender and succulent, the rice so fragrant. And the fried tofu (pic above) was like a little taste of heaven. A fitting meal to top off a fun afternoon.

3) Armoured Convoy: After dinner we drove John to SAFTI MI cos he had to book in. As we were about to turn into Benoi Rd, a police convoy drove past and a policeman blocked off the slip road we were about to turn out from. As we waited, we saw tank after tank drive past… and then there were different types of tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery vehicles. It was a pretty long convoy! When we were allowed to continue driving, Zibin overtook the last armoured vehicle. And since they were all on the left-most lane and we had to turn left into SAFTI eventually, we fell in behind the long line of armoured vehicles, with the last armoured vehicle falling in behind our car. We imagine that we must have been quite an interesting sight for people viewing the armoured convoy, to suddenly see a tiny audi in the convoy as well. My mom’s car’s brief few minutes of ‘military glory’ ha ha ha.
