I read John’s blog entry today. *smile* This is the first time his congratulatory message is different from before, and I can’t help feeling the poignancy of it. In the past, when I win an award or scholarship with monetary value, his congrats almost always goes something like this:
Me: Eh, John ah. Guess what? Jie got an award leh. I get $__ some more!
John: Wah, congrats! Get award again. You very hao lian you know?
Me: Er thank you…*pause* you always say I hao lian. I where got hao lian? Tell you cos you’re my brother what.
John: So you will give me 50% of the award money right?
Me: Huh? 50%? Why?
John: Becos I’m your darling brother mah. Ok ah? On ah! Yay, I’m rich liao!
Me: …
Well, John…this time no need to ask to share liao huh? And yes, I might have gotten more money than you’re currently earning in a year, but you earn yours with blood and sweat. I have to tell you, I’ve never been as proud of you as when I attended your commissioning parade in December. And since then, seeing how well you’re doing at 3rd Guards despite it being such a ‘sai kang’ position, the affection and respect that your men obviously have for you from the way they celebrated your birthday… jie can’t be happier. And every other weekend or so when you call me from the car as you’re driving home from Cathy’s, I’m only too happy to put down anything that I am doing to talk to you.
You’re different now. I really feel it. Can’t quite believe that we’ll be planning our weddings together. Can’t quite believe this capable and mature young man is the same little boy who used to grab my hand excitedly and say,”å§, ä½ çœ‹! 飞机ï¼ï¼‚ Miss you, little brother. Miss living with you, sometimes I miss being the number 1 girl in your life *grins*. But you’ve chosen a wonderful fiancée, and I’m so glad you brought Cathy into my life as well.
Good luck for ATEC. That will be in my prayer intentions this week…and I’m sure you will do just fine. You’ve always risen to the occasion. Besides, you know what Mom always says…just do your best, and leave the rest to God. *hug* See you real soon!
