Yes, those are the new wall colours of CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School. *sob sob* Why?!?! I did a triple take when I was driving along Ang Mo Kio Ave 2 on my way to visit my alma mater… couldn’t believe that my beautiful school now looks like something out of a pre-schooler’s colouring book. Orange, red, blue, pastel green, purple, pink, yellow… argghh!!! What happened to simplicity and elegance? What happened to the simple white and light blue walls that I remembered? Sigh…
At least certain things hadn’t changed and those were comforting. Uncle Mobeen is still selling drinks after all these years and he still remembers me! But didn’t get my free drink today cos he wasn’t there when Weizhen and I got our drinks. And Miss Low Li Eng was in school and we had a chance to catch up with her and meet the current head prefect (exactly 10 years my junior!) who was in school planning a student conference along with representatives from Cat High, SJI and CHIJ Toa Payoh.
It’s a different school now… mostly because of the different principal. I confess I miss the ‘old’ St. Nicholas… but I suppose like everything else, things at my beloved alma mater must change. Time to move on…
