Yesterday Once More…

Today my mom cleared out everything from the cupboards at our veranda. I was tasked to sort them out into piles: keep, throw or give away. Sneezes aside, it was a trip down memory lane for me as I laid eyes on some things I haven’t seen or touched in more than a decade. Colour pencils I used in primary school, mini drums, cymbals, rubber balls, hand-held computer games, card games, my sea-shell collection from 1987… there was also a huge get-well card that John made for me when I got chicken pox back in 1993. I even found a slip of yellowed paper with mom’s hand-writing: “Ann 19/5-’90 42.5kg”. Some of the stuff mom kept… mind-boggling. But going through those little things that was a large part of my childhood with my mom was quite a poignant experience.

“… Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play?…
Wasn’t it yesterday when they were small…?”
