…’when all the trees are budding…‘ I’ve sung that hymn many times over, and I never quite understood what ‘trees budding’ meant. Till today. Walking through campus with my digital camera in my pocket, I decided to take a close-up shot of those baby green ‘leaves’ that have sprouted all over the barren trees in campus in the few days that I had been away in Mexico. And to my surprised delight, those baby green clusters weren’t leaves at all…they were flowers! How could I have been here for so many springs and not noticed it? Amazing isn’t it, the number of things that happen right beneath our noses and escape our notice? *muses*
It was a beautiful day…after two days of overcast skies, the clear blue skies of Toronto returned today. And there’s always something about a bright spring day that cheers me up. I spent the bulk of the day cooped up indoors working on my last comps essay though…first in my office at OISE, and then later at Gerstein. In between bouts of falling asleep, I stepped out to get a cup of my favourite Earl Grey and bask in the warm sunshine.
After a hard day’s work (I was quite productive today…if I am as productive tomorrow, I just might be able to finish the essay!), I had dinner at Ka Chi with Li Ning which lasted rather longer than we had expected, but turned out to be very fruitful. Among other more earnest conversation, she made an interesting observation about me. According to her, I only act my age when I’m ‘working’ (like in terms of committee work etc), or when I’m giving serious advice. At all other times, she says I don’t even act 17…more like 7. *dramatic sigh* We-ell… I guess I can quote Morrie and say “I am every age” :P
It’s way past my bedtime now, and I really did want to sleep ‘earlier’, except that I got hungry and started looking at the photos I took today while having cereal…and I had been thinking of this blog entry all day, but this was the earliest I could get to it. *smile*
Before I go, here are some more spring scenes from around campus. Enjoy!

Hear hear! I so agree with Li Ning’s observation of you. Ageless people… sigh. Love them or loathe them, there’s no denying that they make life extremely interesting. :)
Li Ning’s observation of you reminds me of a certain MSN conversation I had, way back in November, with a good friend of mine. She remains unnamed here because she, and a number of her friends, reads this blog too; and I’m trying to preserve her dignity. :)
Dear Good Friend, I have not mentioned any names but my own. If you engage or say anything that reveals your identity, it’s 愿者上钩 hor.
(The inclusion of the Chinese section in front is an attempt to give this conversation some context. This portion was said as the conversation was coming to an end. I can assure you that earlier in the conversation this good friend used more… underhand tactics which I am *not* sharing, to preserve *my* dignity.)

X: Aiyah, like this then fun mah. It’s fun to see you adapt.
HJ: Next time you are asked for your age, you should simply say that it depends. :P

My sympathies. It’s another blue-sky day in T.O. and I’m hoping it’ll stay this way as long as possible!
To metwin1:
Why, your friend sounds positively delightful to me. A kindred spirit! I like her already. Must introduce to me ok? I’m sure we’d get along famously *grin*
