Part I: Wine Shopping
Kenneth (Li) and I went to get a bottle of wine for Daryl and Lily before going over to their new place for dinner. After some rather humorously inane discussion about wine selection (neither of us know much about wine), we bought what turned out to be a very good bottle of Australian Shiraz.
Hats off to the French for coming up with the most entertaining labels for their wine. I was extremely diverted by an ‘Arrogant Frog’ label as well as a ‘Fat Bastard’ one. Don’t believe me? That’s why I took photos. Go check them out! :P
Part II: Hot-Pot!
I’m not a particular fan of steam-boat (or hot-pot as they call it in Canada). But tonight I enjoyed steam-boat more than I ever did before. I seriously think it’s the best I’ve ever had. Kudos to Daryl and Lily who prepared the delectable dinner. The pork-bone broth (which had coconut milk…a touch of genius in my book) was divine! I kept eating non-stop for at least an hour. And I still had room for a mug of apple juice, two mugs of water, ice-cream, and a taste of wine!
Part III: Night Lights
Tonight there was this event called NightLights. (Find out what it is here.) Hundreds of LEDs were supposed to be suspended from balloons above Front Campus in UofT, creating an artificial starscape. Turns out though, that due to some ungracious people, 300 LEDs were stolen at the beginning of the event. And when we arrived at Front Campus around 10:15p.m., there was hardly anything to see.
Still, we had fun. Our dinner party ran into some of the 222-Elmers (Yuehan, Leng & PY), their Waterloo guests and Kenneth Lai on the field, and we ended up having a ‘conference’. Yep, in the middle of a dark, muddy field, on a pretty chilly night. *wry* Don’t know why nobody had the sense to go some place warmer to talk! But I suppose huddling together in a circle and hopping up and down to keep warm while laughing at one another’s lame jokes was part of the charm?
All in all, I had a very pleasant and relaxing evening. And I’m not sure why, but I’m a little pleasantly surprised at what a nice time I had. It’s a sweet end to a week that began with me being sick and cooped up at home for 3 days while on a steady diet of porridge. For the last three evenings, I’ve had good food outside of home and very nice company. :)
