When we first experience a conversion of heart and become attracted to a life of virtue and a closer relationship with God, much of what we desire is in our imagination.
The first Christians encountered and experienced Christ and became his disciples before they identified themselves as 'Church'.
How do we respond when we encounter our shame? Do we try to deny it, deflect it, defend ourselves from it, or could there be a way to face it with faith and hope and thus not be defeated by it?
Failure and shame is a universal phenomenon. So is the natural survival instinct to deflect, defend and save our ourselves instead of owning up to our failures and bearing the consequences.
Silence. Stillness. Solitude.
It's been a heavy couple of days emotionally for me.
