Why knowing God and knowing ourselves necessarily grow together.
I used to think that any focus on myself was selfish, egotistical and ungenerous. I was taught to focus on loving God, loving neighbour, and the only aspect of self-love I was aware of was discipline so that I would be a blessing to others and not get into trouble.
Last night I met another part of my fragmented inner self i had not recognised before, and after I recognised her I couldn’t sleep. So we spent some time together in the darkened living room watching candlelight flickering through my favourite candle holder.
Don't be too quick to correct yourself!
We come to God with what we have, with what we know. We start where we are and our merciful God meets us there and brings us towards freedom.
How much of a lived reality is God's presence and tenderness to you?
