It’s “Duan Wu Jie” again, and since I was really young, I had looked forward to this festival because of my grandmother’s rice-dumplings. I remember when I was around 9 or 10 yrs old, I once sat down with 2 of my cousins (all of us were the older siblings) in my grandmother’s kitchen and tried to learn how to wrap the dumplings. We were terrible at it of course, and got more rice on the table than in the bamboo leaves, but we had tremendous fun until grandma shooed us off to ‘play something else’.
Years have passed since that memorable day and my grandmother has stopped making rice-dumplings because of old age. Now it’s my eldest aunt who does it…and today I went to her place to observe and hopefully, learn. It wasn’t as fun as it was all those years ago, but at least this time I had something to show for it. Far from perfect yet, but at least they look like rice-dumplings.
Hi Ann,
Your dumplings look good :)
My father came back last weekend and he made dumplings too. :)
