Dastardly Dreams

What kind of a person wakes up at 5a.m. in the morning because she couldn’t solve a conundrum in her dreams? A crazy one, I bet.
I was sound asleep…then I started wondering (while in my dreams!) about the correct spelling of the word ‘chrysanthemum’. Was it ‘chrysanthemum’ or ‘chrysenthemum’? I thought it was the former, but suddenly, in my dreams, the latter looked more and more plausible. The anxiety built up until I couldn’t bear it anymore. I woke up, turned on the light and took the Oxford Dictionary off my shelf and checked. It was ‘chrysanthemum’, with an a. Ok, problem solved, right? Except I couldn’t go back to sleep after that…as much as I tried. Why? Because I was starving! So I got up and ate a slice of bread with a cup of hot milo. But I still couldn’t go back to sleep. So, I read instead. And commented on blogs. And replied emails. And read some more. Now I’ve had my second breakfast, engaged in some fishy smses (which I have a feeling you might be hearing more of on HJ’s blog if she chooses to blog about her crustacean fever in Morrison’s second below) and updated my blog! Back to reading…

  1. What kind of a person reads blogs, pays close attention when food is mentioned, and sits up because she detected heaty food? A crazy one, I bet. *shamelessly plagerising your words*

Descartes, you had bread and milo for breakfast?!? Was your bread lightly or darkly toasted? Did you wait for the bread to cool down first before eating? And milo…it contains cocoa powder … tsktsktsk. You do realise that both toasted bread (especially hot toasted bread) and milo are heaty don’t you?

Now, I’m not saying that they are very heaty. Nope, they are only slightly heaty. I’m just pointing them out because I’m very sure there are many of such “invisibly” heaty foods that you do eat regularly and unknowingly. You say that you keep off snacks and fried stuff. But you get 上火 so easily; the heat has to come from *somewhere*.

And no, I’m not suggesting an outright ban on bread and milo (and other heaty food that you eat knowingly or unknowingly). Is it even possible? Besides, you’d kill me.

As it is, I’m sure Zibin’s wondering why there is a such person who’s paying such close attention to what you are eating and how much you are sleeping. :P Just keep what I’ve said in mind all right?

  2. I didn’t toast the bread, and yes I know milo is heaty, but…I haven’t had it for so long…didn’t think it’d do too much harm :P C’mon, cut me a little slack lah…*twinkle*

I’m sure Zibin is very appreciative that there’s somebody in Toronto who is taking such good care of me. Right, Zibin? :P

  3. Right… Left, right, left, right, left, right…

Anyway, milo is heaty, that I have to agree. And while it is acceptable to have milo in moderate amount, having it when you are awake duing the wee hours is unacceptable. Cos your body naturally becomes heaty when it lacks sufficient sleep, and taking milo would only make it worse.

Bread (non-toasted) is a totally separate matter.
