I will serve only thee

Now and then, a song I’ve heard many times over suddenly takes on a new meaning. Today, this song which is part of a collection of animated stories from the Bible touched me more deeply than it ever had.

Just this past Sunday, the Catholic community celebrated the feast of Christ the King which is a feast day dedicated to the Kingship/Lordship of Christ, and I have been mulling since then what it means to me to have Christ as my Lord and King. When I heard this song today, the lyrics resounded in my heart word for word and I had my answer.

The rest of today has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I am still overwhelmed by the enormity of God’s generosity, wisdom and love.

Cathy, I will always remember all that happened today. God be with you tomorrow!

Dear Lord give me strength for the day
Give me faith to endure what I must
Though the world give me burdens to bear
In you oh dear Lord is my trust

I rise unbroken, unbound
I stand unfettered and free
For thou dear Lord art my master
In my heart I will serve only thee

Whatever the chains placed upon me
Whatever the prison my soul has the key
No money can buy, no power can steal
No burden can break the unshakeable strength of my will

I rise unbroken, unbound
I stand unfettered and free
For thou oh dear Lord art my master
In my heart I will serve only thee
