One thing I seek

One thing I ask of Yahweh, one thing I seek: to dwell in Yahweh’s house all the days of my life, to enjoy the sweetness of Yahweh, to seek out his temple.
Yahweh, hear my voice as I cry, pity me, answer me!
Of you my heart has said, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Yahweh, I seek;
do not turn away from me. Do not thrust aside your servant in anger, without you I am helpless. Never leave me, never forsake me, God, my Saviour.
Though my father and mother forsake me, Yahweh will gather me up.
This I believe: I shall see the goodness of Yahweh, in the land of the living.
Put your hope in Yahweh, be strong, let your heart be bold, put your hope in Yahweh. – from Ps 27

One thing I seek is your face O Lord
There is nothing else I yearn for more than to be with you
But to be one with you means to be one with your people
And Lord, people can be so difficult sometimes
I know I am no better, for I am cowardly and selfish
It takes so little for me to become like Peter who claimed he would die with you
but who denied you when following you became difficult

On this most holy day
As we celebrate the completion of your mission of salvation
As we marvel at the empty tomb
Please, Lord, be risen in my heart as well!
So often my own conscience condemns me and I lose heart in myself
Help me to remember to place all my hopes in YOU
And never let me give up!

In my own life, I do not want to have Easter without Good Friday
for such an Easter would be empty and meaningless
For it is only when I die to myself that I can rise again in new life with you
Help me to be faithful
That I will carry my cross forward inch by inch
Minute by minute
Even when my back is breaking
Let me think of you and how you carried a much heavier cross for me

Forgive me for my inconsistency and weakness Lord
And THANK YOU for what you’ve done for me!
