Lent Begins

We were to attend Ash Wednesday mass together. I was early, but by the time Henry arrived, the church was packed to the doors. He couldn’t get to where I was seated. We were separated.

When I returned to my seat after receiving ashes on my forehead, I felt a tap on my shoulder. “I’m going to stand right there where you can see me,” Henry pointed to a spot near the choir as he smiled at me.

My heart filled with warmth as I saw him make his way through the congregation to the spot he had pointed out to me. He had come all the way through the crowd just so we could be ‘together’.

I felt a jolt as I recognized God speaking through Henry to my heart.

“I’m right here, Ann. I haven’t abandoned you. I’ll be where you can find me.”
